Where is Fuji Shibazakura Festival 2026 held?

The festival takes place at Fuji Motosuko Resort, located near Lake Motosu in the Mt. Fuji area.
The Fuji Shibazakura Festival is held every year from mid-April to late May.
For 2026, the festival runs from April 11 to May 24.
Fuji Motosuko Resort Address: 212 Motosu, Fujikawaguchiko-machi, Minamitsuru-gun, Yamanashi 401-0337, Japan
This location is about 100 km from Tokyo and sits in the Fuji Five Lakes region. What makes it special is the view. You get a wide-open field of flowers with Mt. Fuji rising in the background. On a clear day, it’s honestly one of the most photogenic spots in Japan.
What makes this festival truly world-class is the sheer volume of flowers. Over 500,000 individual Shibazakura plants are meticulously maintained across the resort.
Keep in mind that blooming conditions can change slightly depending on the weather.

Is Shibazakura a Cherry Tree?

The short answer is No.
Let’s clear up a common naming confusion. The word Shibazakura is a bit of a linguistic mashup.
Shiba (Lawn or turf) × Sakura (Cherry blossom) = Shibazakura
The name comes from how the plant grows and blooms. It spreads along the ground like grass, and in spring, it produces flowers that resemble cherry blossoms.
But technically, Shibazakura isn’t a cherry blossom at all. It’s actually a type of phlox (Phlox subulata), often called moss phlox in English.
