Mt. Fuji & Sakura 2026: Local Guide’s Forecast for Fujiyoshida (Chureito Pagoda) & Lake Kawaguchiko

sakura prediction 2026

Hi there! I’m Daichi, a tour coordinator based right here in beautiful Fujiyoshida City (at the foot of Mt.Fuji).

If you’re planning to catch the “postcard view” of Mt. Fuji framed by cherry blossoms, you’ve come to the right place.

The latest WeatherNews forecast (released Feb 25, 2026) is out, and it looks like we’re in for a classic spring. While Tokyo is getting ready to pop quite early, things move a bit differently up here in the highlands.

Here is the breakdown for our area based on the latest data and my local experience.

Please scroll to the bottom of this post for the latest 2026 updates.

2026 Sakura Forecast: Fujiyoshida & Lake Kawaguchiko

Weather News’s Sakura (Cherry Blossom) Forecast https://weathernews.jp/news/202602/250076/images/?n=001

While the “official” start for Tokyo is March 22, you might notice on the forecast map that Fujiyoshida and Kawaguchiko are shaded in the same color (Pink). However, the reality on the ground is a bit different.

Don’t let the map fool you! Remember that Fujiyoshida and Kawaguchiko sit at a much higher elevation—about 700 to 1000 meters above sea level. Due to our cooler mountain climate, we are almost always 7 to 10 days behind the schedule.

If you’re planning your visit based on the Tokyo dates, you might arrive to find our buds still waking up. For the best experience here, aim for early-mid April!

2026 Prediction of Sakura Bloom in Fujiyoshida and Kawaguchiko

Based on the latest weather data and the altitude of our region, here is the window for the best views:

Opening (Kaika/開花): April 1 – April 4

Full Bloom (Mankai/満開): April 8 – April 15

Important Tip: Please remember that these dates are just a prediction. Cherry blossoms are very sensitive to daily temperature changes. A few days of unexpected heat can speed things up, while a late frost can delay them. I recommend checking back for updates!

Looking Back: What happened in 2025?

To help you plan, it’s useful to see how last year went. In 2025, the season was slightly later than our current 2026 prediction:

Looking Back: Cherry Blossoms in 2025

Opening (Kaika/開花): April 5 – April 6

Full Bloom (Mankai/満開): April 11 – April 18, 2025.

According to the Fujiyoshida City Official Tourist Guide:https://fujiyoshida.net/feature/sakurakaika/sakurakaika

Why the change? Every year is a balance between winter’s chill and spring’s warmth. Last year stayed cool into early April, while this year (2026), we expect a warmer-than-average March to give the buds an earlier start.

Plan Your Trip with a Local!

Seeing the cherry blossoms at the foot of Mt. Fuji is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Because the timing is so delicate, I’ll be posting live photos and stories of the buds as they grow on my Instagram and Tiktok.

Also, I also offer private tours based at the foot of Mt.Fuji. If you are interested, feel free to contact me!

Happy travels!

March 4 Update: The 5th Official Forecast

sakura prediction 2026 japan weather news
https://weathernews.jp/news/202603/040056/

The latest data from WeatherNews (released March 4, 2026) shows that spring is arriving even faster than expected!

Tokyo’s opening date has been moved up to March 18—four days earlier than the previous forecast. When Tokyo speeds up, we usually see a similar “fast-forward” effect here in the Fuji Five Lakes area.

Revised 2026 Prediction for Fujiyoshida & Kawaguchiko: Based on this latest acceleration, I’ve updated my local window:

  • Opening (Kaika): March 29 – April 2 (Previously April 1–4)
  • Full Bloom (Mankai): April 5 – April 12 (Previously April 8–15)

Please keep in mind that I’m not a professional weather forecaster! These dates are my personal estimates based on the latest official data and what I’m seeing on the ground here in the mountains.

Nature is full of surprises, and cherry blossoms are especially sensitive. I’m sharing these windows to help you plan, but I always recommend staying flexible and checking for the most recent updates as your trip gets closer!

Arakurayama Sengen Park Cherry Blossom Update | March 28, 2026

Here is the latest cherry blossom update at Arakurayama Sengen Park in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi, as of March 28, 2026.

At the moment, most of the cherry blossom trees are still in bud, but the buds are already starting to swell. This means the sakura season is getting close, and the trees should begin blooming soon if the weather remains favorable.

They are still closed, but they have clearly grown fuller, which is a sign that blooming is approaching.

The trees in the lower left area are cherry trees, and once they are in full bloom, this spot will become even more beautiful and photogenic.

As a matter of fact, a few kinds of cherry blossoms are already blooming (only few!). Some early-blooming varieties have started to open, but overall, only a small number of flowers are visible right now.

Overall, Arakurayama Sengen Park is not yet in full bloom now, but the sakura is definitely beginning to move in that direction. If temperatures rise, the cherry blossoms could open very quickly.

The cherry blossoms near the entrance of Arakurayama Sengen Park are just starting to bloom.

Since the area around the pagoda is located higher up the hill and requires climbing the stairs, the temperature there is slightly cooler, and the cherry blossoms have not bloomed yet.

It still feels like they’re just a little bit away — probably very soon!

Cherry Blossom Update | April 3, 2026

Cherry blossoms are starting to bloom around town in Fujiyoshida.

At Arakurayama Sengen Park, the lower area is around halfway into bloom, while the upper area still needs a little more time. But the whole park is finally starting to turn pink, and it’s looking more and more like sakura season is here.

At last, the sakura at Arakurayama Sengen Park is now in full bloom!!

This is one of the most stunning times of year to visit the Mount Fuji area, and the park is finally showing the beautiful spring scenery so many people come to see.

Based on the current conditions, the cherry blossoms are expected to remain near peak bloom for around one more week, although this may vary slightly depending on rain, wind, and temperature.

Right now, the area is extremely crowded! Especially around the observation deck.

If you visit around midday or early afternoon, there’s a high chance you may need to wait 1 to 2 hours to reach the main viewpoint.

If you’d rather avoid the biggest crowds, I highly recommend going early in the morning, ideally around 7-8 AM if possible (My photos and video in this post were actually taken around 7:00 AM). The atmosphere is much calmer, and your overall experience will likely be much more enjoyable.

Here is my video at Arakurayama Sengen Park!

It’s super crowded at the moment, so if you’re planning to visit, early morning is definitely the best time. #arakurayamasengenpark #chureitopagoda #mtfuji #sakura #japantour ♬ Spring – 久石 譲

Please note that this post will not be updated again as Sakura is already in full bloom, so if you want to check the latest bloom status before heading there, I recommend using the live camera as well.
