The Challenge: 403 Steps to start

To start, 403 steps!
That’s right, your journey begins with a bit of challenge. The journey begins with a literal “step” in the right direction, steep stone staircase marks the start of the trail. It’s a great way to wake up your legs and get your heart pumping.
The Legend of the Split Rock (Ishiwari)

After the stairs and following the mountain path, you will arrive at Ishiwari Shrine (Ishiwari Jinja / 石割神社). This isn’t your typical shrine; it is built against a massive rock that has a narrow vertical split down the middle (You can see this in the video at the top of this post!) .
The name “Ishiwari” literally translates to “stone splitting.” Local legend says that if you walk through the narrow crack in the rock three times, you will be blessed with good health and luck.

The Reward: A Panoramic Mt. Fuji

Once you reach the summit (1,413 meters), the effort pays off instantly!
On a clear day, you will see panoramic Mt. Fuji view, with Lake Yamanaka stretching out below.
I love this Mt. Fuji view from the top of Ishiwari-Yama.
