What does “Chureito” mean?
The name “Chureito” literally means “the tower to honor loyal souls.” It was built in 1958 as a peace memorial to enshrine about 960 residents of the city who lost their lives in wars.
Today, it stands not only as a famous photo spot for its stunning view of Mt. Fuji but also as a beautiful bridge between history and the peaceful scenery we enjoy today.
Conquer the 398 Steps: The Sakuya-hime Stairs
To reach that observation deck, you’ll need to climb 398 steps. It’s a bit of a workout, but the view of the city and the mountain opening up behind you is worth every step. No need to rush!
These are known as the Sakuya-hime Stairs, named after the goddess of Mount Fuji.
650 Cherry Blossoms
Arakurayama Sengen Park has roughly 650 cherry trees. When they are in full bloom, the combination of the red pagoda, the pink petals, and the snow-capped Fuji is breathtaking.
